The black community has been smuthered by 'other' cultures in regards to our love. Though jumping the broom and throwing rice was conventional for our enslaved ancestors, WE ARE AWAKE! What wedding traditions should we promote from our TRUE culture? What new ones should we start?

We should definitely tap into our roots when getting married BECAUSE marriage was such a serious thing. Getting wrapped up in western facades of marriage has had a hand in ruining the foundations of real >marriage<. That being said, we couldn't afford either so we went and did the paperwork and in the future plan to have a 7-day feast. It didn't affect the level of our love or the fundamentals. Doing it without all the extras actually strengthened our bond and reaffirmed what we're here for.
I LOVE the idea of cultural garments and days of feasting and celebration though. If I know my mama 'nem just fed a whole heap of guests for seven days I'm gon' think two, three...TEN times before I even utter divorce!
