We always wait til the water runs out to start digging the well. WELL, this is a space for us to help each other dig, stack, plant, grow, NOW.
We'll share some easy ways even the busiest families can make sure their ducks are in a row in any situation.
We're planting a garden in the lower 9th ward - Yes, THAT lower 9th ward - so that we're able to provide fresh, organic produce to our people while ALSO teaching sustainability.

An easy way to create food storage is to allot $10/a month (or whatever you can afford) to non-perishables. We don't regularly eat canned foods but having them on hand in case of emergencies is a smart plan. Also storing grains (flour, oats) in airtight containers, and oil is great.
We've braved hurricanes and weeks without lights (y'all know about these blackouts) and it's always the little things that come in the most handy.

CHARCOAL!!! There are a million uses for charcoal. Being able to cook without electricity or gas is SO important AND activated charcoal (found in the pet department) can be used to make a crude water purifier.
